A:
When my
husband & I had our second son, I joined a message board
online and cloth diapering was discussed in length in a
number of posts. I started to read them and realized that
cloth diapering was not what it used to be and it was
something we had to try! The very next day after reading the
post, I contacted a good friend who works for BabyKicks and
we’ve been cloth diapering ever since!
Q: How did you go
about making cloth diapers your business?
A:
When we decided to
cloth diaper, we realized that we couldn’t purchase them locally
(except for BabyKicks). When we looked online, we realized what a
great group of people started their own businesses doing what they
loved! We wanted to be a part of this great family and provide our
local community with a place to purchase environmentally friendly
baby products.
Q: Was starting your store difficult?
A:
I don’t know
if it was as difficult as it has been time consuming and at
times frustrating (I am not what many would call a ‘techie’ : ).
Many people may think opening a web store is quick and easy, but
it takes a lot of time and patience. With 2 little ones at home
and another one due next month, late nights and nap times are
when I am able to work on our business.
Q: How do
you manage to run a business with small children?
A:
My family is
my number one priority. I work on the business when the kids are
napping or at night after they’ve gone to bed. There are of
course times I need to respond to emails or phone calls, which I
do with the kids around. One of the greatest things about being
in this business is just about everyone you deal with, from
customers to suppliers are moms just like you – so when you have
kids screaming in the background, usually, they do too!
Q: What does your store
look like?
A:
My office is my dining room : ) I have a
laptop set up in the family room, a pda cell phone that can receive
my emails ‘on the go’ and a wireless printer in the kitchen.
Q: What Is The Most Rewarding Thing About Running Your
Diaper Store?
A:
Without a doubt being able
to stay home with my children, contribute to our family
financially and give moms (and dads) a place to go to
read about and buy products that are so good for their
kids and the environment. I go to bed every night
feeling good about what we’re doing.
Q:
What new an exciting things can we
expect in the future?
A:
Besides having our 3rd child next month
; ) We’re opening a local brick & mortar store this summer that will
offer the same products as our online store and also an array of
children classes, including Baby Sign Language, Tumble Tots, Mommy &
Me and Story Times. We’re so excited to bring this to our community!
As for the web store – I’m always scouring the internet and
publications to bring our customers the newest and greatest
