Featured Cloth Diaper WAHM: Lisa of Precious Coverings
Q: What Led You to Start Using Cloth Diapers?
A: I had an online friend that used cloth, and it peaked my interest. Once I started doing research, I knew there was no way I could put paper underwear on my baby! Plus they were so much cuter than disposables!
Q: How did you go about making cloth diapers your business?
A: It's always been my dream to open up a store selling clothing that I make! I went to school for fashion design and gave it up to work in the corporate world! Once I had my son and returned to work I knew I had to stay home with him! A few months after I became a sahm, I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. I started sewing cloth diapers for her and knew I could turn this into my dream! Two weeks before my daughter was born, Precious Coverings was started.
Q: Was starting your business difficult?
A: Amazingly it wasn't as difficult as it seems! It took me almost a year to take it from the drawing board to a live store. The most difficult part was trying to balance business while getting use to having two children.
Q: How do you manage to run a business with small children?
A: I do most of my work during nap times and late at night. My chores get neglected some days, but my children are everything, they are the reason I have this business! I try to use email as much as possible for communication with customers and suppliers.
Q: What does your home office look like?
A: My office has fabric everywhere!! My office is in our dining room (minus the dining room furniture), so it's a main room of the house. My computer desk, has my computer, embroidery machine and piles and piles of paperwork. I have different work stations set up for the different functions I need. I try to keep these areas all organized but that isn't always possible. There are also toys throughout the room for my kids to play with when I have work to attend to during the day.
Q: What Is The Most Rewarding Thing About Running Your Home Business?
A: The most rewarding thing is being with my children everyday! Seeing all the milestones and watching them grow. This is one thing I feel like I missed out on when my son was a baby. I can skip work and play all day with them.
