Featured Cloth Diaper WAHM: Texas Blue Bonnet Diapers

Q: What Led You to Start Using Cloth Diapers?

A: I adored all the cute fabrics that my friend was shopping for, for her baby to be. So I dabbled in some for my 1 year old. I knew I couldn't afford to buy them, so to save myself some money I made some.

Q: How did you go about making cloth diapers your business?

A: Leighan actually convinced me to make one. Once I did, we were both hooked. We both started making them, and made more than we needed. After some trial and error and perfection, we decided we could sell them, and we were hooked once again. Making diapers for other babies is so fun!

Q: Was starting your business difficult?

A: It was not so much "difficult" as it was hard work. But so worth it!!

Q: How do you manage to run a business with small children?

A: I am fortunate enough to have a business partner. Leighan and I have worked at this for 3 years and have been able to overcome many wahm struggles that I know would have been very hard for one person to carry.

Q: What does your home office look like?

A: Office? No, it looks like a home. I have a sewing/diaper station, though. I have my sewing machine, serger, lamp (for extra light for these poor old eyes) and my notions set up in sections on a table, and next to the table is a bin for all my shipping supplies. Across the room is a giant fabric shelf that holds more fabric than it probably should. ;) All of this is in my living room so that I can be with my children, know what they might watch on TV, listen to them read, and see them as they play outside. My mother has sewn all my life, and her sewing station was always in a central place in the house so that she could watch over her family as she sewed for us. I could still sleep to the sound of a running sewing machine -- that is, if I weren't the one sewing. ;)

Q: What Is The Most Rewarding Thing About Running Your Home Business?

A: Definitely the friendships that have formed with customers. New customers who just discovered TXBluebonnetDipes, those that are still buying and using them, and even those that no longer have any children in diapers. I have made lasting lovely friendships that I would never want to lose, diapers or not!
