How To Make a Cloth Diaper Cake

Diaper CakeHave you ever seen those adorable diaper cakes at baby showers? They are incredibly cute and inventive! The article below has instructions for making your own diaper cake. If you dip dyed some prefold diapers you could make a gorgeous diaper cake and perhaps even stuff a few covers or AIO diapers inside of it. Then you have the perfect gift for a cloth diapering mama who is expecting. Even better, give a cake like this to a mom that has never used cloth before and give her a crash course.

What you will need to get started:

  • 12 Prefolds or Flats
  • Cake Plate
  • Cake Stand (optional)
  • Ribbon
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Diaper Pins (Optional)
  • Decorations

Step 1/ Top Tier:

Fold prefold along seams. For flats, fold in thirds. Then fold diaper in half length wise. Starting at one end, roll the diaper and tape the end in place. Add the two additional diapers around your original roll. Tape each additional diaper in place securely.

Step 2/ Bottom Tier:

Fold prefold along seams. For flats, fold in thirds. Then fold diaper in half length wise. Starting at one end, roll the diaper and tape the end in place. Add the eight additional diapers around your original roll. Tape each additional diaper in place securely.

Step 3/ Decorate & Assemble:

If you like, you can wrap the layers of the cake with a blanket, An Aden & Anais Swaddle works especially well on the bottom layer. You can attach the tiers to each other with adhesive or diaper pins.

You can top the cake with a special item like flowers (real, fake or made of baby mittens), baby bottle, keepsake or teddy bear. For a bottle, you can attach the diapers around the bottle. Stuffed animals can be pinned thugging the top layer of the cake.

Other items can also be used to decorate the cake, including pacifiers, utencils, toys, ribbons  and colored paper. Use your creativity to attach other useful items or fun decorations to the cake.
